Las Mananitas is a very well know restaurant
and hotel in Cuernavaca and if anybody in the US has ever been to Cuernavaca,
they seem also to have been to Las Mananitas. The place has definitely
acquired a world wide reputation and a well deserved one. The place is
truly amazing even if it is extremely expensive.
When you enter the restaurant you pass through
a reception area and on out to the lawn where a number of peacocks - who
make Las Mananitas memorable - wander about. People may not remember the
name but they definitely remember the place with the peacocks.
We stopped in on a Sunday around 12:30PM
and beat the crowd by about a half hour or so at which point the place
seemed to fill up pretty fast. Reservations seem to be a prudent move.
When you arrive they open some fancy folding
chairs for your group with a couple of little TV tray type tables and take
a drink order and bring you out a tray of nuts and chips while you mull
over the menu which is written onto large blackboards that they place in
front of your table while you have a drink and chill out a little.
You will have sticker shock when looking at
the price range of entrees which range from about 120 to 325 pesos or so
- most being around 200 - 250 and the special meal of the day with all
the trimmings at 420 pesos.
But by the time you sit down to eat and the
meal is served, the dishes are so delicious and the servings so ample that
you realize that it is a fairly good value for the experience. Definitely
a two thumbs up place.
